Cross Border Women’s Leadership Programme

Cross Border Women’s Leadership Programme

During 2018 and 2019 the All-Island Local Authority Forum successfully delivered a new women’s leadership programme specifically designed for senior females within the local government sector across the island of Ireland. The programme provided the opportunity and space for 20 senior females to explore, understand and expand their current leadership styles, and to further develop the skills required to meet the specific leadership challenges faced by local government today.

The programme was delivered through 3 modules across a range of venues in both Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland and focused primarily on building resilience as the key to effective leadership. In addition to providing a valuable opportunity for female leaders within local government to develop their own leadership capabilities, it also provided a much-needed opportunity for effective networking and transfer of learning / best practice within the sector across both jurisdictions.

Feedback from participants on both the programme and the trainers has been particularly positive as demonstrated by the testimonials below:

“Excellent tangible learning that I am going to apply and embed in my practice” Louise Moore, Antrim & Newtownabbey District Council

“A very worthwhile time and opportunity to develop relationships with other female leaders in local government” Caroline Magee, Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council

The trainers created a safe environment for honest learning and examples” Liz Hore, Wexford County Council

The network that has been created through this course will lead to stronger female leaders within the Local Authority sector, and will enable us to support each other in the future” Eileen Gleeson, Dublin City Council
