Co-operation Ireland Future Leaders Programme April Update

Fri 23 Apr 2021 by Co-operation Ireland

We are well into our Future Leaders programmes being delivered so diligently by Edward from Utopian Learning. All three of our courses have seen brilliant content being given and great engagement from the young people. Our guest speakers have added such depth to our explorations and conversations, and we are really looking forward to the mock interviews and pitches coming up over the coming weeks.

In recent weeks the Employability group have learnt how to put an effective CV together with the young people having a go at creating their own CV afterwards as part of the qualification requirements. Next week they will be exploring the next part of the job application process through understanding interview processes and techniques.

The Communications and Lobbying programme spoke to Gordan Lyons MLA and DUP MP Emma Pengelly on how to speak to the media and getting across your viewpoint. They answered many fantastic questions from the participants and reminded them of the importance of having clear points of address, staying respectful to others and tolerance towards others who don’t share the same opinion.

Our Leadership course has also seen great success and the young people have explored which personality type they are, whether they are left brained or right brained and what this means for their style of leadership. We heard from Dr John Kelly from Fingerprint learning who lead us through the self-exploration process and helped participants digest their findings.  Over the next few weeks, participants will be carrying on the journey by looking at bringing about change and the psychology of leadership. Exciting!
