About Co-operation Ireland
45 years after its foundation in 1979, Co-operation Ireland continues to play a leading role in societal relationship building across all three strands of the Good Friday Agreement. The charity uses the principles of mutual respect and dialogue to work collaboratively with communities across the island through a range of facilitated programmes. We work to build a shared and cohesive society, by addressing legacy issues of the conflict and facilitating contact and collaboration between people from different backgounds across these islands.
Many of Co-operation Ireland’s current programmes focus on our young people, giving those who have not previously had contact, an opportunity to meet and work together to improve their understanding of each other’s cultures and traditions. They deliver mutually beneficial projects in their own communities, while experiencing the shared learning of partnership with other schools and youth organisations who come from either a different cross community or cross-border background.
The charity’s flagship programme for young people, the Co-operation Ireland Future Leaders programme, now in its third year, aims to create 1,000 Future Leaders by the end of 2025. It aims to empower the next generation of young leaders and peace builders, by equipping them with the skills, confidence and networks to make positive contributions to the future development of their own communities, while improving relationships on and between Ireland and the United Kingdom.
