LEGaSi and The Dáil
As part of the LEGaSi project the participants had several important meetings in Dublin on Wednesday 17 and Thursday 18th May. As part of their exploration of ‘Democracy’ in Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland they had meetings with The Department of Foreign Affairs in Iveagh House, the were in the public Gallery in the Senate during a presentation by the Ulster Farmers Union and they met with the Dail’s Good Friday Agreement Committee. They also had a talk about social services, welfare and how the population were affected by austerity measures in the Republic. As a result of these meeting the group gained many insights into government and its workings within another country and the connections between the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland. It was agreed during the trip that both the DFA and the Good Friday Agreement Committee would meet again with the group, continue the conversation and take cognisance of the groups views.
